Parenting and Custody

The primary focus in all parenting and custody matters is promoting and protecting the best interests of the child.  At Bowie Law, we are dedicated to doing precisely that.  Our lawyers will help you achieve the parenting arrangement that is in the best interests of your child and that maximizes contact with both parents.

We will help negotiate reasonable and generous parenting time for non-custodial parents.  Our goal is to ensure that your child has the opportunity to maintain a healthy and meaningful relationship with you.

Child Support and Spousal Support

We have a team of highly experienced child and spousal support lawyers.  We will help you with obtaining an initial support Order, or a variation of an existing Order.  We can also assist you if you are having difficulties with the Maintenance Enforcement Program (“MEP”):  for example, if you are a payor facing enforcement action.

Division of Property

We will help you achieve a fair and equitable division of joint property.  We work hard to protect your interests and ensure that you get everything you are entitled to at law.

Separation Agreements

At Bowie Law, our lawyers will help you with negotiating fair terms for your settlement agreement and with drafting a legally binding document.  We can also provide independent legal advice regarding an Agreement drawn up by your ex or your ex’s lawyer.

Emergency Protection Orders (“EPOs”) & Restraining Orders

EPOs are meant to address various forms of domestic violence, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, stalking and threats to harm children, family members, pets and property.  Whether you’re a victim of domestic violence or you’ve been falsely accused of abuse, you will be experiencing significant stress and stigmatization.  At Bowie Law, our team of lawyers can assist you in obtaining and confirming an EPO or a Queen’s Bench Restraining Order to ensure you safety.  Conversely, if you are wrongly accused, our team has successfully defended both EPOs and Restraining Orders.

Guardianship & Child Welfare

Our legal team, with a background in social work and child welfare, can help you obtain legal guardianship.  We are well-versed with guardianship applications under both the Family Law Act and the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.  We have also successfully assisted a number of clients whose children have been apprehended by Children’s Services and who are responding to an application for temporary or permanent guardianship.   Further, we have assisted foster parents whose license has been revoked or have been subjected to intrusive administrative reviews.

Adoption is a very lengthy and cumbersome process.  At Bowie Law, our team of lawyers with a social work and adoption background can assist you to navigate this complex process with confidence and relative ease.  Whether you are a stepparent, grandparent, auntie or uncle who wants to adopt a family member, our team of professionals will assist you in completing the adoption as expeditiously as possible.  We can also assist with non-family and international adoptions.
